Changes announced to tuition policy, same-sex domestic partner benefits

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Office of Human Resources has announced changes to the tuition discount policy for dependents of eligible Penn State employees and to benefits offered to same-sex domestic partners. 

Tuition Policy (HR37 Grant-in-Aid for Dependents of Faculty, Staff and Retirees)Effective Sept. 1, 2015, policy HR 37, Grant-in-Aid for Dependents of Faculty, Staff and Retirees, has been updated. For members of the Teamsters Local 8 bargaining unit, existing HR 37 will continue to govern their negotiated grant-in-aid program: http://guru.psu.edu/policies/OHR/hr37.html. Changes include eliminating the two-year waiting period for spouses of employees, limiting the benefit to children up to age 26, and continuation of the tuition discount for the entire semester in the event an employee becomes ineligible at any time during the semester. As a result, the University discontinued same-sex domestic partner benefits effective July 1, 2015. Those employees who currently have a same-sex domestic partner enrolled in benefits have until July 1, 2017, to marry, or the partner’s benefits will be discontinued.
