Ozbolat lauded for research efforts in freeform/additive fabrication

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Ibrahim Ozbolat, associate professor of engineering science and mechanics, is the recipient of the 2015 International Outstanding Young Researcher in Freeform and Additive Manufacturing Award.

Sponsored by the Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium, the award recognizes an outstanding researcher, age 35 or under, in the field of freeform/additive fabrication early in their career.

Ozbolat was recognized for his significant research accomplishments in the field of freeform/additive fabrication, his service to and beyond the freeform community and for being a positive role model.

He received his award, which consists of a certificate, a trophy and a check for $1,000, on Aug. 10 at the symposium in Austin, Texas.

Ozbolat also delivered a keynote lecture titled "Bioprinting Living Tissues and Organs."

Prior to joining Penn State for fall 2015, he was at the University of Iowa, where he served as an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, co-director of Advanced Manufacturing Technology and a faculty member in the Diabetes Research Center.

His additional awards and honors include the Institute of Industrial Engineers Dr. Hamed K. Eldin Outstanding Early Career IE in Academia Award, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Chao and Trigger Young Manufacturing Engineer Award, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Pi Tau Sigma Gold Medal, a National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Outstanding Young Manufacturing Award.
