Annual pre-tenure symposium to be held Oct. 16

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The 11th annual pre-tenure symposium, “Equity and Inclusion: Successfully Navigating the Promotion and Tenure Process,” sponsored by the President’s Commissions for Equity and hosted by University Libraries, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, in the Paterno Library’s Foster Auditorium on the University Park campus. Registration and a continental breakfast will take place from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in Mann Assembly Room, and the symposium will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. in Foster Auditorium.Lunch will be provided. Nicholas Jones, executive vice president and provost, will deliver the opening remarks, and Blannie Bowen, vice provost for Academic Affairs, will speak on “Strategies for Moving Forward.” For those who cannot attend in person, the symposium will be available via MediaSite Live.Other sessions include:

  • Nuts and bolts of promotion and tenure
  • Teaching/classroom strategies

The Commission on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equity (CLGBTE), Commission on Racial/Ethnic Diversity (CORED) and Commission for Women (CFW) are advisory groups to the President of Penn State. These commissions identify areas of concern, provide a forum for exchange of ideas, and propose programs that can translate into improved practices for our constituent groups at Penn State and improve the climate for diversity within Penn State.
