UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Four Penn State College of Communications student-produced programs have been nominated for 2015 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards in college/university production categories.
The weekly “Centre County Report” was nominated in the newscast category and two programs earned nominations in the long form non-fiction categories. “Centre County Report in Cuba,” an hour-long TV special that resulted from a trip to Havana for an international reporting class, and “In The Game – Episode 401,” a sports magazine show, were selected in those categories, respectively.
Individually, in the sports category, a segment titled “Making A Splash,” which focused on a new piece of equipment used by the Penn State swimming team, earned a nomination. Zack Rickens and Meghan Caffrey produced that segment.
“Our broadcast students are competing, and winning, at the highest levels of regional and national competitions,” said Steve Kraycik, director of student television and online operations. “These awards are not only a source of pride for students, but they stand out on their resumes. To be a 21- or 22-year-old with an Emmy nomination or Emmy Award win is outstanding.”
Over the past two years, programs produced by students in the College of Communications have earned six Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards, including four in 2014 and two in 2013.
This year's winners will be announced during a Sept. 19 event in Philadelphia.
