Registration open for 2015 Diverse Literacies Conference

Richard L. Allington is keynote speaker

Registration is now open for the 2015 Diverse Literacies Conference presented by Penn State Lehigh Valley and the Lehigh Valley Writing Project. The conference will focus on "Teaching them ALL to read and write: What we know about what works" and takes place from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Conference Center in Macungie, Pennsylvania.

Richard L. Allington, a noted scholar in the literacy field, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Allington’s research focuses on reading and learning disabilities, and effective instruction in classroom settings. He is the author or co-author of 15 books and he has served as president of the National Reading Conference and the International Reading Association.

Allington will also offer a pre-conference dinner interactive session on “Summer Reading, some are not” from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25, at the Melt restaurant at The Promenade Shops in Center Valley.

The conference will feature demonstration workshops, research presentations, and poster discussions presented by teacher educators, local teachers of various grade levels and disciplines, and pre-service teachers. A continental breakfast and complete lunch is also included.

The early registration fee, which will be accepted until Sept. 18, is $59. Late and on-site registration is $69. Full-time students may attend for $30. On-site registration is limited. The pre-conference workshop is $35 and includes dinner.
