UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — On fall football Saturdays, alumni and friends can learn about timely topics from select members of Penn State’s esteemed faculty.

Now in its 23rd year, Huddle with the Faculty kicks off the morning of Sept. 12, the day of the home opener against Buffalo. Peter Newman, professor and head of Recreation, Park and Tourism Management, will lead a discussion titled “Preservation and Use in Our National Parks: Trying Not to Love Them to Death.”Details on the Sept. 12 discussion are below, and full details on all of this year's speakers are available on the Alumni Association's website

From the event description: As use of national parks continues to rise, along with the number of visitors and types of activities enjoyed, we’re challenged to balance preservation with use in parks, wilderness and related areas. Penn State faculty and graduate students are helping the National Park Service explore ways to protect the ecological and experiential values of parks. This presentation will focus on the protection of natural soundscapes and other important values in places like Yosemite National Park, Muir Woods National Monument, Rocky Mountain National Park and other places that make the U.S. National Park system world famous.

All seven Huddle with the Faculty programs start promptly at 9 a.m. in The Nittany Lion Inn and include light breakfast refreshments, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and free parking in the Nittany Parking Deck.
