Canal Jam 2015 set for Sept. 26

Party like it's 1839 at the 2015 Canal Jam: Canal-Era Music Entertainment and Summit from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site in Gallitzin.

Join an all-day gathering of professional and amateur musicians, performers and storytellers interested in 19th century American folk music and other forms of entertainment performed in the “port towns” along the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh during its heyday, circa 1834-89.

Performers include Smithsonian Gold Medalist Dr. William Hullfish and the Golden Eagle String Band, Pittsburgh-based recording artists Up in the Batten House, and local scholar-artists Jerry Zolten and Richard Sleigh.

The event is sponsored by the Penn State Altoona Division of Arts and Humanities and the Center for Community-Based Studies. There is no entrance fee and lunch will be provided to registered participants. You can register through Sept. 24 at www.altoona.psu.edu/ccbs/canal_jam, by calling 814-949-5246 or by emailing jkf16@psu.edu.
