Susan Eisenhower to speak at Breazeale Nuclear Reactor 60th anniversary event

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Susan Eisenhower, CEO and chairman of The Eisenhower Group Inc. and granddaughter of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, will speak at the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor 60th anniversary event Aug. 18.

Eisenhower is a consultant and author, and for more than 25 years, has provided strategic counsel on business development, public affairs and communications projects for Fortune 500 companies in the U.S. and abroad.

She is an expert in energy policy and has served as a member of three blue ribbon commissions for the Department of Energy: The Baker-Cutler Commission on U.S. Funded Non-Proliferation Programs in Russia; The Sununu-Meserve Commission on Nuclear Energy; and the Blue Ribbon Commission on America’s Nuclear Future. She is currently a member of MIT’s Energy Initiative Advisory Board and co-chairman of the Department of Energy’s Nuclear Energy Advisory Committee.

Penn State was one of the first universities to take advantage of President Eisenhower’s Atoms for Peace program. Eisenhower attended the initial dedication of the Breazeale Nuclear Reactor in 1955.

Susan Eisenhower will speak during the anniversary program from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in 100 Thomas Building. The event is free and open to the public.

The 60th anniversary program will highlight the reactor’s history, accomplishments and future endeavors. Other speakers include Ken Sheely from the National Nuclear Security Administration, Michael Weber from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Andrew Bieniawski from the Nuclear Threat Initiative and Sam Levine, emeritus professor and past director of the Radiation Science and Engineering Center. The Breazeale Nuclear Reactor is also holding an open house that day from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. The reactor, housed in the Radiation Science and Engineering Center, will be open for tours.
