Partnership honors educators, board members for outstanding service

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Pennsylvania School Study Council (PSSC) held its annual awards banquet today (Aug. 5) at The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel to recognize two area educators and a school board member for their outstanding service to public education.

Stacey Nath, business education teacher for Bellefonte Area School District, received the Walter J. DeLacy Award for Excellence in Instruction for her dedication to provide extracurricular learning opportunities for her students. As the district’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) adviser, Nath has led her student to win regional, state and national awards. She also serves as a state adviser for FBLA; is a board member for the Bellefonte Education Foundation; and serves as an officer for the Pennsylvania Outstanding Young Woman program.

Kathy Hough, veteran school board member for the Portage Area School District, received the William S. Vincent Award for Support of Public Schools for her dedication and continued support of public education. In her 27 years as a school board member, Hough has served as both president and vice-president, and as liaison to the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. She often is seen at various school events in support of the success and endeavors of district students.

Brian Griffith was honored with the William E. Caldwell Award for Excellence in Administration and Supervision. As superintendent for the Penns Valley School District, Griffith leads by example and exemplifies this district’s mission — to empower students every day to reach individual success. “His passion, high expectations and drive to constantly improve are an inspiration to everyone,” said Kurt Nyquist, Penns Valley High School principal.
