The Lake Erie Chapter of the Penn State Alumni Association will hold its annual steak fry dinner and silent auction on Saturday, Aug. 15. The event celebrates the recent retirement of O. Richard Bundy, a 1970 and 1987 graduate, director of the Penn State Blue Band and a former teacher in the Iroquois School District.

The steak fry will be held in the Wilson Picnic Grove at Penn State Behrend and begins at 5 p.m. with a social hour. A full meal featuring a grilled-to-order 10 oz. strip steak will be served at 6 p.m.

Bundy retired from Penn State on July 1 after a 30-year association with the Blue Band as a graduate assistant, assistant director and director, a position he had held since 1996. In addition to directing the 300-member marching band, Bundy oversaw the University’s other athletic bands, directed the Concert Band, and taught courses in conducting, marching band techniques, instrumental music education and band literature. Prior to returning to Penn State to pursue a doctoral degree, Bundy had been a trombonist with the United States Continental Army Band and band director and instrumental music instructor in the Iroquois School District.

In March the Penn State Board of Trustees announced that the Blue Band Building will be renamed the O. Richard Bundy Blue Band Building. A naming ceremony will be held during the University Park campus’ 2015 Homecoming weekend, Oct. 9-11.

The annual steak fry is a fundraiser for the Lake Erie Chapter’s scholarship benefiting local Penn State students and is open to nonmembers. Cost is $25 per person; tickets must be purchased in advance on the chapter’s website, www.lec-psaa.com/events.
