UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Homecoming executive committee announced the Color Run Penn State will be held at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7.

Registration for the event, now in its third year on campus, began July 31.

“We hope this race will incorporate the community and I want it to be fun. Not just for the runners, but for the volunteers, too,” Pride Events Director Kaila Williams said.

Penn State Homecoming -- in conjunction with the Color Run -- hopes to bring new and exciting aspects to the event. The Shine Tour will add new participant gear, music and race attractions to the event.

Penn State Homecoming has held the Color Run for the past two years. Williams said she’s hoping the success will continue this year.

"We want to get people excited for homecoming early on," Williams said. "The executive committee, captains and committee members work hard year round, but a lot of people only look at it as a week-long event. So hopefully this gets people excited about what's to come later in the fall,” she added.

Nicknamed the "Happiest 5K on the Planet," the Color Run was founded in March 2011 as an event to promote healthiness and happiness. The race, which has occurred more than 170 times and in over 30 countries, splashes runners with color throughout their run.
