LGBTQA Student Resource Center to offer monthly Safe Zone trainings

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Ally) Student Resource Center will hold Safe Zone 101: Fundamentals of LGBTQ Identity trainings once a month. These trainings are typically three hours and located at the HUB from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Participants will learn how to be an ally at Penn State and how to support the LGBTQA community. After learning about the issues and concerns of the LGBTQA community, participants will develop an action plan to make a difference on campus within their own sphere of influence.

The LGBTQA SRC also conducts trainings on Intersectionality 101 each semester. A look at how we inadvertently create barriers for different groups of people within the LGBTQA continuum. The next Intersectionality 101 will be held Dec. 8; a form to register will be available in November. The center will also offer a Trans* 101 training each semester for those who have taken the initial Safe Zone training.

To join the center’s listserv to ensure you get notifications of when these trainings are available, send an email to l-rainbow-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu.

Questions and concerns can be directed to lgbtqa@psu.edu.
