Penn State recognizes innovation and improvement teams

Several new University innovation and improvement teams were added to the Team Database maintained by Penn State’s Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment during spring 2015.

At the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence, the Scanning Operations RFP Team worked with Penn State Purchasing to draft a request for proposal (RFP) for a new Scantron scoring application. The team identified requirements and options for pricing, narrowed the field of vendors to those with appropriate capabilities, evaluated all responses to the RFP, and awarded the purchase order to the vendor that most closely matched the requirements of the RFP at the lowest price.

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital used Lean/Six Sigma principles to resequence the discharge process and significantly reduce discharge delays from the general pediatric service.

In Finance and Business, the District 42 Safety Committee is identifying ways to be proactive with safety in the workplace through proper products, equipment, postings and personal habits.

Also, the Support to Campuses Team has been established with objectives that include reducing energy consumption at the campuses, improving building system effectiveness and efficiency, instituting a Work Order System at the campuses and improving and enhancing campus appearance.

Members of these teams have received a certificate recognizing their work, and teams are featured at Quality Team Highlights.

New teams can be added at any time.
