Parking restrictions in place for 4th Fest

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — To accommodate setup for the annual Central PA 4th Fest celebration held near the Bryce Jordan Center and Medlar Field, several parking restrictions will be in place Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 4, on Penn State's University Park campus.

During the restricted times listed below, all vehicles (including University vehicles) must be removed from the designated areas. University vehicles should be moved to the East Deck, Eisenhower Deck, Yellow H (Shields), Orange H (Materials Research Lab) or one of the Orange lots near the former Greenburg Ice Pavilion or the Housing and Foods Building.

Wednesday, July 1

Beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, the southern section of Stadium West (closest to Curtin Road), will be reserved for 4th Fest setup through Saturday, July 4.

Thursday, July 2

Beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 2, Lot Orange L East (Founders Lot) and the metered visitor lot just west of Lot 44 will be closed for 4th fest setup through Saturday, July 4.

Friday, July 3

Beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, July 3, all sections of Stadium West, Lot 44, Porter North, Porter South, Orange L at the Bryce Jordan Center, Lot Orange B (softball), Lot 82 (East Halls), Orange O Meats Lab, and Orange A west of Physical Plant will be closed and reserved for 4th fest parking through Saturday, July 4.General event parking will remain available at Lot 44 and Stadium West for the State College Spikes game vs. West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. Friday at Medlar Field. A $3 event parking fee is required to park at these lots Friday evening, though vehicles displaying a valid Penn State parking permit may park at no additional charge.

Saturday, July 4

All of the parking lots mentioned above will remain closed Saturday, July 4, through the conclusion of 4th Fest activities. In addition, the section of Curtin Road between University Drive and Porter Road will be closed Saturday, July 4.

In observance of the Independence Day holiday, there will be no CATA service on Saturday, July 4. Normal service will resume Sunday, July 5. A complete bus schedule and route information may be found at the CATA website or by calling 814-238-CATA (2282).

Early bird parking for 4th Fest will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, while general parking will be available beginning at 9 a.m.

The annual 4th Fest Firecracker 4K race will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 4. Visit the 4th Fest website for race route and registration information.The Parade of Heroes will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 4, and will proceed through the following route:

  • Begin at the State College borough building on Allen Street
  • North to College Avenue
  • East on College Avenue to Shortlidge Road
  • North on Shortlidge Road to Pollock Road
  • East on Pollock Road to Bigler Road
  • North on Bigler Road to Curtin Road
  • East on Curtin Road to the Bryce Jordan Center

The parade route will be closed to all vehicles approximately 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, July 4. There will be no access in or out of the East Parking Deck or the section of Lot 82 near Findlay Commons when the parade proceeds on Bigler Road to Curtin Road.
