Registration still available for Arts Festival Alumni Weekend

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Summer has officially begun, which means that the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts is approaching. Mark your calendar for July 8-12 and plan a trip to State College for some summer nostalgia. The Penn State Alumni Association has numerous activities planned for the long weekend, appropriate for participants of all ages.

Register for the Alumni Association’s Arts Festival Alumni Weekend: $35 for members, $60 for non-members. Attendees will receive a parking pass, a free T-shirt, a tour of the Old Main Bell Tower, the Arts Festival button and— new this year — a tour of The Arboretum at Penn State. Registration will still be available for walk-ins, for an additional $10 fee.

“It’s definitely popular — we had about 550 people attend last year,” said Jill Selfe, Alumni Association events coordinator. “We not only have the Arts Festival for entertainment, we’ve incorporated a lot of family-friendly events as well.”

Events for the whole family include ice skating at the Pegula Ice Arena; swimming at the Penn State McCoy Natatorium and outside pool; movie nights in the Hintz Family Alumni Center’s Robb Hall; and an ice cream social featuring live entertainment.

Before you book a hotel reservation, consider the Alumni Association’s fun alternative during Arts Festival Alumni Weekend. The West Halls dormitories will be open to alumni who would like to lodge on campus for the weekend. Single and double rooms are available, and a free breakfast at the dining commons is included.

Rooms include sheets and towels, but it is recommended that each guest bring their own toiletries and an electric fan. Dormitories do not have air conditioning.

“It’s a great way for people to relive their college days, and even introduce Penn State to their children,” Selfe said.

The West Halls area is not only picturesque but convenient as well. The location is only a block away from College Avenue — walking distance to many Arts Festival attractions.
