Transportation Services ending one-day commuter parking permits

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State Transportation Services is ending sales of $4 one-day commuter parking permits, effective July 1. As a result of this change, one-day commuter permits will no longer be included as part of the Ride for Five or CATA Rideshare programs.

Existing one-day commuter permits will continue to be honored through Dec. 31.

The introduction of multi-space pay stations to a number of campus parking lots, including Lot 44 and Stadium West, provides patrons with a convenient, flexible and on-site option for short-term parking that does not require the purchase or display of a permit. This option, along with the affordability of monthly commuter permits, has resulted in a decrease in demand for one-day commuter permits over the past several years. By discontinuing the one-day Commuter permit, Transportation Services will be able to further leverage the benefits of on-site parking technology, while also reducing the use of paper products and costs associated with producing physical permits.

Multi-space pay stations are available at Lot 44 near Bryce Jordan Center Gate B, across from the Penn State All-Sports Museum, and at the southwest corner of Stadium West near the intersection of Curtin Road and University Drive.  These pay stations require patrons to enter their vehicle's license plate numbers at the time of payment, which may be made by major credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover), LionCash+ or coin. Hourly parking is available for $1 per hour for a maximum of 10 hours, or patrons may choose to pay a $6 daily rate.

Parking in the commuter lots is prohibited between 2 - 4 a.m., seven days a week, and from midnight through the conclusion of post-game traffic on Penn State football game days. Instructions on how to pay for parking at a pay station can be found at the Transportation Services website, as well as on each machine.

One-day parking permits valid for the East, Eisenhower and Nittany parking decks, Orange lots and Lot Red A will remain available for purchase, but will increase to $8 effective July 1.
