HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Penn State Harrisburg, in partnership with ArcelorMittal, is presenting a free week-long summer institute for middle and high school math, science, and special education teachers.

Catalyst IV STEM, to be held July 20 through 24 at Penn State Harrisburg, will focus on integrating STEM in the mathematics curriculum and developing mathematical literacy for 21st century college and careers.

Participants can earn six ACT 48 credits for participation in the institute and online professional development throughout the school year, at no cost. Participants also will receive a $100 voucher for materials to support STEM-integrated instruction in their classrooms.

The institute will feature experts in biology, engineering, and computer science; hands-on activities and lesson plan creation; and keynote speaker Chris Rogers, of Tufts University, who will share project ideas for encouraging students in problem-solving and critical thinking.

Lunches are included each day, and housing near the campus is available.

The course also can be taken for graduate credit through Penn State Harrisburg. Tuition and fees apply.
