Smeal faculty members earn promotions

Eight members of the Penn State Smeal College of Business faculty, which ranks among the best in the world for research productivity, have received promotions that will take effect on July 1.

Lisa Bolton has been promoted to professor of marketing. Bolton, who joined the Smeal faculty in 2008, has research expertise in judgment and decision-making by managers and consumers, with substantive interests in new products, pricing, risk perceptions, and consumer spending and finances. She holds a doctorate in marketing from the University of Florida.

Laura Field has been promoted to professor of finance. Field, a member of the Smeal faculty since 1996 and the Moore Faculty Fellow in Finance, studies IPOs, corporate governance, repurchases and the JOBS Act. She earned a doctorate in finance from UCLA.

Jingzhi (Jay) Huang has been promoted to professor of finance. He has been a member of the Smeal faculty since 1997 and is the David H. McKinley Professor of Business. His research expertise lies in derivatives markets, credit risk, fixed-income markets, mutual funds, and hedge funds. Huang holds a doctorate in finance from New York University.

David Huff has been promoted to clinical professor of supply chain management. A member of the Smeal faculty since 2004, he teaches Supply Chain Management and Management Science courses for undergraduate and Masters in Quality and Manufacturing Management programs. Huff earned a doctorate in operations management from the University of Rochester.

Aparna Joshi has been promoted to professor of management and organization. Joshi, who joined the Smeal faculty in 2012, studies multilevel issues in workplace diversity, gender issues in science and engineering, collaboration in global and distributed teams, generational issues in the workplace, and international and cross-cultural management. She earned a doctorate in management and labor relations from Rutgers University.

Margaret (Meg) Meloy has been promoted to professor of marketing. Meloy, a Smeal faculty member since 2002, has research expertise in consumer behavior and decision-making biases and heuristics. She holds a doctorate in marketing from Cornell University.

Shrihari (Hari) Sridhar has been promoted to associate professor of marketing with tenure. A member of the Smeal faculty since 2011, Sridhar’s research falls in three areas: assessing marketing-mix spending effectiveness in two-sided media markets; investigating how marketing-mix elasticities vary across firms, products, and industries; and, examining the properties of optimal marketing budgeting and allocation policies. He earned a doctorate in marketing from the University of Missouri.

Hui Zhao has been promoted to associate professor of supply chain management with tenure. Zhao, a Smeal faculty member since 2012, has research expertise in pharmaceutical supply chains, supply chain management and hospital/clinic operations. She holds a doctorate in industrial engineering from Purdue University.
