Schreyer Scholars awarded medals at 2015 Ceremony

2015 Schreyer Honors College Medals Ceremony Program

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – More than 400 Scholar medals were awarded to Penn State's Schreyer Honors College Class of 2015 on Friday, May 8, in Eisenhower Auditorium at University Park. Friends and family members of Scholars and distinguished guests gave the graduating class of Schreyer Scholars a standing ovation at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Penn State University President Eric J. Barron presided over his first Schreyer Honors College Medals Ceremony with Executive Vice President and Provost Nicholas P. Jones and Schreyer Honors College Dean Christian M. M. Brady.The 2015 graduating class of Schreyer Honors College Scholars finished with a grade point average of 3.83 with 98 percent of the class achieving cum laude status. Nearly 60 percent of the class achieved a grade point average of 3.82 or higher. Seven Scholars were selected as student marshals for 2015 Penn State Commencement ceremonies as each possessed the highest grade point average among graduating seniors in their respective colleges.

Thirty Scholars earned both an undergraduate degree and graduate degree during their academic careers at Penn State through the Integrated Undergraduate-Graduate Degree program. More than 100 Scholars graduated with at least two degrees, nine Scholars finished with three degrees and one Scholar completed his undergraduate education with four degrees. One of the scholars who graduated last weekend not only received three degrees, but she also wrote two distinct theses to earn honors in two areas.

Schreyer Honors College promotes academic excellence with integrity, the building of a global perspective and creation of opportunities for leadership and civic engagement. Schreyer Honors Scholars, including Gateway Scholars admitted after their first year of enrollment, total more than 1,800 students at University Park and six Commonwealth campuses. They represent the top 2 percent of students at Penn State University who perform well academically and lead on campus.
