Penn State Lewistown Center recognizes nurse with excellence award

LEWISTOWN, Pa. — Local nurse Kasey Adams has been selected as the first recipient of the Penn State Lewistown Center’s Award for Nursing Excellence.

Adams is a medical-surgical and pediatrics nurse at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital, where she has worked for seven years.

The award honors a local nurse who has demonstrated exceptional patient care and a commitment to giving back to the community. Adams was presented with the award May 14 during the nursing expo at the Penn State Lewistown Center, 152 E. Market St.

“I’ve always liked helping people,” Adams said. “Taking care of my community is important to me.”

Adams was nominated by Karen Napikoski, patient care director at the hospital.

“Her dedication in achieving optimal care for each patient is recognized with each interaction she has with the patient and other health care providers,” Napikoski wrote in the nomination. “Patient advocacy is a strong attribute. Her conscientiousness in her efforts to be the best nurse she can be is visible in all that she does.”

Adams and her husband, Derick, have two daughters and reside in Lewistown.
