Breastfeeding classes now available; ninth Lactation Station opens

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Breastfeeding Support Program (BSP) at Penn State announced that May and June breastfeeding classes are now open for enrollment at https://app3.ohr.psu.edu/emPower/session/index.cfm

The BSP offers both a Basics of Breastfeeding, and a Working and Breastfeeding class each month. Classes are open to University employees, students, and spouses/partners of employees and students. Basics of Breastfeeding covers information needed to get started in the early weeks of breastfeeding including physiology of breastfeeding, proper positioning and latch, breastfeeding management, normal newborn behavior and how to tell if the breastfed baby is getting enough milk. Working and Breastfeeding covers milk expression and storage, working with your supervisor to plan your return to work, and general tips for combining work/student life and breastfeeding. Taken prenatally, these classes can help you get off to a good start and establish a successful breastfeeding relationship.

Also, 229C Walker Building in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is now the ninth Lactation Station operated by the BSP. The room offers a comfortable chair and table space, electrical outlet, hospital-grade breastpump, refrigerator and microwave. University Park Lactation Stations require a brief orientation and enrollment session prior to use. Contact the BSP at breastfeeding@psu.edu or 814-867-0776 for more information.
