Police investigate report of sexual assault

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A sexual assault was reported to University Police at 8:55 p.m. on May 1. The reported assault occurred between 8:45 and 8:50 p.m. at the Intramural Field, during the Movin' On concert. The Intramural Field is located in the northeastern portion of campus, adjacent to University Drive, Park Avenue and Services Road. The victim, a student, reported the unknown male inappropriately touched her.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 18 and 22. He has a thin build with a long face and was wearing a black baseball cap.

Police have shared the following safety tips:

-- Report all suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to University Police immediately.

-- Sexual assault is a second degree felony in the state. Sentencing can include as many as 10 years in prison, fines and psychiatric treatment.

-- Perpetrators are responsible for sexual assaults. Perpetrators take advantage of vulnerability and seek opportunities to commit sexual assaults.

It can be assumed that conditions that continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the administration to warn of possible "dangerous conditions" on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus; an "affirmative duty" exists to warn persons associated to the University of possible peril at the hands at some third party or parties.
