UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Stuckeman Center for Design Computing (SCDC) at Penn State is hosting the SCDC spring open house and symposium "Design Across Boundaries" from 1-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, at the Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. The event is free and open to the public.

The open house will feature an exhibition of computational design research and coursework directed by Stuckeman School and School of Visual Arts faculty Daniel Cardoso Llach, Felecia Davis, David Goldberg, Andrew Hieronymi, Peter Lusch and Marcus Shaffer.

In conjunction with the open house, there will be a flash symposium with special guests Athina Papadopolou, MIT Design and Computation; Somnath Ray, Timescape, New York; Laia Mogas Soldevilla, Mediated Matter Group, MIT Media Lab, Dumo; and Orkan Telhan, PennDesign.

The event will be an opportunity to engage innovative computational design researchers and practitioners whose work crosses boundaries between different disciplines, scales, technological paradigms and modes of inquiry in design. The symposium and panel will offer an opportunity to consider emerging practices in design ranging from biological approaches to material formation and design expression, sensory pedagogies of space, and platforms for geolocated interactive storytelling. Following the guest presentations, symposium participants, faculty and students will engage in a panel conversation, followed by a reception.

The event will be hosted at the SCDC Laboratory, in the Stuckeman School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, on Penn State's University Park campus.
