UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Luis Ocampo Giraldo, a third year doctoral candidate in nuclear engineering, is the recipient of the 2015 Council of College Multicultural Leadership Way Paver Student Award. The Way Paver Awards were established in 2011 to honor those who have contributed to supporting diversity initiatives that have positively enhanced student life and the climate throughout the college and local community, while maintaining a high level of character and leadership.
Ocampo is the president and co-founder of the Multicultural Engineering Graduate Association, a group dedicated to the retention and recruitment of underrepresented domestic graduate students. He is also a founding member of the engineering diversity roundtable, a forum that brings together undergraduate and graduate domestic engineering societies and associations in the College of Engineering. He is the chair of the human diversity committee of the Graduate and Professional Student Association and the current vice president of the Penn State student chapter of the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management.
As an undergraduate student at Penn State, Ocampo served as the vice president and president of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.
