Summer STEM camp to be offered at Penn State Shenango

Open your child’s mind this summer without letting them know you did! Penn State Shenango invites your middle school-aged child to a one-week summer STEM — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — day camp that runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 22, through Friday, June 26. The weeklong camp will be available to students entering grades 7, 8 and 9 this fall.

The cost of the camp is $95 and is limited to the first 24 paid applicants. Students will be able to enjoy their packed lunch in the campus’ air-conditioned Great Hall.The camp courses will be taught by Penn State Shenango faculty experts who will engage students in learning while offering lessons on a variety of topics and leading activities including: understanding chemical reactions while tie-dying T-shirts, building terrariums, learning blogging techniques and Internet safety tips, and meeting the newest member of the campus biology lab, Synthia—a state-of-the-art synthetic cadaver.In addition to hands-on classes, students will take an all-day field trip where they will participate in outside environmental activities. Transportation will be provided.Registration will be open May 1. Application forms will be available at shenango.psu.edu under Continuing Education or by stopping by the campus Admissions Office in Lecture Hall room 225.
