Penn State Behrend spring choir concert to be held April 19

‘The Road Home’ theme highlights this year’s event

“The Road Home” will be the theme of this year’s Penn State Behrend Chamber Singers and Concert Choir spring concert, scheduled for Sunday, April 19.

Its theme is inspired by a spiritual of the same name from Grammy-nominated southern American composer Stephen Paulus, who passed away last year. The concert begins at 4 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Erie, 7th and Sassafras streets.

“Given our theme, it seemed natural to include more music from the same region on the program,” said Gabrielle Dietrich, director of choral ensembles at the college. “However, in addition to spirituals and Appalachian folk tunes, new compositions by Abbie Betinis, arrangements of folk music from Spain, the United Kingdom and Hungary, and even a piece for organ and choir by Brahms will come together to tell our story.”

Admission to “The Road Home” is free and open to the public. For additional information, please contact Dietrich at gpd10@psu.edu.
