Agricultural Sciences student researchers win awards in Graduate Exhibition

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Four student researchers in the College of Agricultural Sciences placed highly in the recent Graduate Exhibition sponsored by the Graduate School at Penn State.

The Graduate Exhibition includes poster exhibits of students' research, music and theatrical performances, a visual arts display and a video submission option. The event is designed to celebrate research in all its aspects as an essential part of graduate education at Penn State, placing special emphasis on communicating research and creative endeavor to a general audience.

"Learning to conduct research and present the results in a clear and understandable way to diverse audiences helps to prepare our graduate students for successful careers in science," said Gary Thompson, College of Agricultural Sciences associate dean for research and graduate education. "The Graduate Exhibition provides a prime opportunity for participants to gain this kind of experience, and we're proud that these students have been recognized for their research and communication skills."

During judging March 22 in the HUB-Robeson Center, the following College of Agricultural Sciences graduate students earned awards:

-- Fabio Giallongo, doctoral candidate in Animal Science, first place in the Health and Life Sciences division for "Effects of Slow-Release Urea And Rumen-Protected Methionine And Histidine on Performance of Dairy Cows Fed a Metabolizable Protein-Deficient Diet."
