Seminar to feature hot topics in intellectual property and entrepreneurship

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's College of Engineering will host an intellectual property (IP) seminar from 2 to 4 p.m. on April 9, in the Boardroom of the Nittany Lion Inn on the University Park campus.

The event is free and open to the public. A reception will immediately follow.

Theresa Mayer, associate dean for research and innovation in Penn State's College of Engineering, will deliver opening remarks and provide an update on Penn State's Fund for Innovation.

James Delattre, assistant vice president for research and industrial partnerships in Penn State's Office of the Vice President for Research, will discuss Invent Penn State, the University's new $30 million investment in economic development and student career success.

Ron Huss, associate vice president for research and technology transfer and director of Penn State's Office of Technology Management, will share what's new in IP and technology transfer resources at the University.

Chemical engineering alumni Matt Frederick and Christopher Halliday will discuss hot IP issues and common mistakes of startups. Frederick is an attorney at Reed Smith, LLP and Halliday is a partner at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP.

Donghai Wang, associate professor of mechanical engineering, and Jack Langelaan, associate professor of aerospace engineering, will present "Case Studies from the Ben Franklin TechCelerator Boot Camp Program."

Graduate students who complete the entire seminar may be eligible for two hours of Scholarship and Research Integrity credit, as determined by their academic department. Registration is required by April 6 at the IP Seminar registration site.

The seminar is sponsored by the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society and the Engineering Entrepreneurship Program.
