For the sixth consecutive year, the Penn State Grassroots Network is joining forces with Penn State alumni, volunteers and three Penn State student government groups to organize Penn State Capital Day. Penn State Lehigh Valley students are invited to attend the event, which will take place in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, March 31.
Penn State Capital Day events will include a legislative briefing and advocacy training session in the Forum Auditorium, a rally in the Capitol rotunda and prearranged visits by teams of volunteers to legislators’ offices.
During their prearranged visits, students and volunteers will have the opportunity to help inform state legislators of Penn State’s contributions, needs and success stories. They also will share how state support helps various causes within the university, such as keeping tuition increases at a minimum, ensuring educational programs remain suited to the needs of the students and state, and preserving a substantial in-state tuition discount for Pennsylvania residents.
Students interested in traveling to the state capital for the event can sign up in room 214 or room 218. A $5 fee for bus transportation will be collected at the time of registration.
A bus to Harrisburg will depart from the Lehigh Valley campus at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31. A return bus will depart from Harrisburg at approximately 2 p.m. the same day.
