Torres named CGA Gymnast of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Junior Alexis Torres (Catano, Puerto Rico) was named the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) Gymnast of the Week, the CGA office announced March 6. This is the first career award for Torres.

He picks up the honor following his performance against Iowa on Feb. 27. Torres and the Nittany Lions closed out their final home meet of the season with a 440.800-435.700 win over the Hawkeyes on Senior Night.

Torres, a junior, tallied five top-three finishes, an eighth-place finish in the vault and in the all-around, he posted the top score (90.550). Torres climbed the Penn State record books Friday night. He tied Tommy Ramos (2008) for sixth all-time in the still rings (16.000) and he moved into eighth all-time in the all-around event.
