Police investigate report of indecent assault

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- An indecent assault was reported to University Police at 10:37 a.m. today (March 4). The reported assault occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. Monday, March 2, near the southwest corner of the Health and Human Development Building.

The Health and Human Development Building is located on the south edge of campus, north of the 200 block of East College Avenue. The victim, a student reported an unknown male pushed her against a construction fence outside that building and inappropriately touched her neck, face and chest.

The suspect was described as a male, in his late 20s or early 30s, of unknown ethnicity, with dark hair and dark eyes and approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall with an average build. The suspect was wearing a blue sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Safety tips:

-- Keep doors and windows locked. Report inoperable locks and latches to the appropriate maintenance personnel.

-- Do not accept rides or walking accompaniment from people you don't know well or trust.

-- Trust your instincts. If you feel unsafe, get to a safe place and call for help.

-- Report all suspicious persons, vehicles and activities to your University Police department immediately.

-- Tell someone you trust your destination and planned time of return.

-- Do not admit strangers into your residence hall.

-- Sexual assault is a second degree felony in the state. Sentencing can include as much as 10 years in prison, fines and psychiatric treatment.

-- Perpetrators are responsible for sexual assaults. Perpetrators take advantage of vulnerability and seek opportunities to commit sexual assaults.

It can be assumed that conditions that continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the administration to warn of possible "dangerous conditions" on or near the campus and at affiliate organizations off campus; an "affirmative duty" exists to warn persons associated to the University of possible peril at the hands at some third party or parties.
