UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — UPDATE: Because of inclement weather and travel safety concerns, Penn State students representing the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon will be unable to be in Harrisburg for THON to be recognized Wednesday (March 4) by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Officials will seek to reschedule the passage of House Resolution No. 119 at a later date so students may be in attendance.

State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, the House resolution's primary sponsor, and State Sen. Jake Corman have led efforts to recognize THON volunteers.

The House resolution's text acknowledges that more than 15,000 Penn State student volunteers helped raise more than $13 million this year to fight pediatric cancer, and another $114 million since the organization began its relationship in 1977 with Four Diamonds Fund at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. It also states, “THON has inspired similar events and organizations across the United States, including at high schools and institutions of higher education and continues to encourage students throughout the nation to volunteer and stay involved in great charitable causes in their communities.”

The mission of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is to conquer pediatric cancer by providing outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers and staff of the Four Diamonds Fund.
