Faculty member to present research that could give investors an added edge

MALVERN, Pa. -- Penn State Great Valley will host one of its signature Management Research Showcase events featuring research from assistant professor of finance management Sang Mook Lee from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in Room 230 of the Main Building.

Community members, students, faculty and staff are invited to this free, informative session where Lee will share findings from his latest research study, titled “Information Discovery by Sell-Side Analysts.”

Lee explained that financial analysts play important roles in the world of investing by collecting, processing and sharing information that investors use to make investment decisions.

Through his research, Lee has found that analysts generate more value by discovering new information than by processing publicly available information. For example, financial analysts’ interaction with the upper management of firms allows them to gain access to new information not yet released to the public, bringing more value to investors.

Lee read and examined more than 3,600 analyst reports over two years in search of instances where analysts had interactions with various sources of new information, including a firm’s management and industry sources, and how that interaction affected the market.

Lee received his doctorate from Temple University and master of business administration degree from Ohio State University. Prior to joining Penn State Great Valley, he gained various professional experience as a senior manager at the Korea Deposit Insurance Corp. and as a fixed income trader at the Asian Banking Corp., one of the most prestigious investment banks in Korea. His field of expertise is financial analyst information production and multinational corporate finance. Lee teaches multinational financial management and speculative markets. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

The campus' Research Showcase event highlights the research projects of University faculty. This event is free and open to the public as well as the campus community. Penn State Great Valley is located at 30 E. Swedesford Road in Malvern. Due to limited seating, register at https://eventbrite.com/event/15522046860/.
