Science festival offers hands-on activities for children, families

A Science Festival at Pennsylvania College of Technology on Thursday, March 19, will provide a variety of math and science demonstrations for local children and their families.

The event, scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Penn College Field House, is sponsored by the college and the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.

The Science Festival’s hands-on math and science demonstrations are geared toward elementary and middle school students as well as their families. The experiments are designed to make learning fun and to stimulate children’s interest in math, science and the exciting careers in related fields.

Demonstrations will be provided by organizations and companies that have a focus on science as well as students and faculty from local high schools and Penn College. Last year, more than 500 people attended the event, participating in activities on topics as diverse as water creatures and hydrogen-powered vehicles.

On-campus coordination for the Science Festival is being handled by the college’s Outreach for K-12 Office. The festival is paid for by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and Penn College. Additional support comes from area businesses through sponsorships.

The local Science Festival is a satellite event for the USA Science & Engineering Festival, the nation’s largest celebration of all things science and engineering.

The snow date for the event is March 26.
