UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – For many years, Barton Malow and the Department of Architectural Engineering have forged a mutually beneficial partnership – one that provides architectural engineering students with industry networking and learning opportunities, while offering Barton Malow the chance to recruit world-class architectural engineers.

To continue the success of the department and its students, the company has recently renewed its commitment to the Barton Malow Excellence Fund.

“We are very pleased with the renewal of the Barton Marlow Excellence Fund,” Chimay Anumba, professor and head of the Department of Architectural Engineering said. “Barton Marlow is a forward-looking company that values the education and professional development of students who will become the future captains of industry.”

Since first launching in 2013, the fund has provided financial support to 12 undergraduate architectural engineering students. The $50,000 renewal will be made over a five-year period, continuing to support architectural engineering students in their quest for academic excellence and promising future professions.

“We value our partnership with the Penn State AE department and want to ensure that it has the necessary resources to allow the best and the brightest students to achieve personal and professional success,” Robert Grottenthaler, senior vice president at Barton Malow, said.

As an alumnus and member of the department’s Industrial and Professional Advisory Council, Grottenthaler understands the impact relationships between the department and companies have on the education and experience of architectural engineering students.

“The AE department has dedicated instructors who partner with industry professionals to deliver innovative solutions to the problems facing our industry today – and in the future,” he said. “Active and engaged involvement by industry professionals will ensure that the AE department has the necessary resources to continue to produce the future leaders of our industry.”

Grottenthaler said learning from some of the top experts in the industry was a privilege Penn State provided him with – and something he wants to help continue.

“I was touched by their passion and genius to make our program the best in the country. I feel it is only right to give back to the Penn State AE program in any way that I can in order to continue the legacy of our great program.”
