Edwin W. Zoller Gallery to host 'Seeing Spots' exhibition, public reception

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State School of Visual Arts’ (SoVA) Edwin W. Zoller Gallery announced that Jenna Ferraraccio’s MFA thesis exhibition, "Seeing Spots," will be on display from Feb. 16 to 20. A public reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, in the gallery.

In "Seeing Spots," Ferraraccio challenges the viewers perception of representation. The installation contains dreamlike undertones prompting the notion of an altered reality. By using recognizable, common household items and obscuring them in such a way to create a feeling of the unfamiliar, the viewer must explore everything in the space. Disorientation surfaces and removes the viewer from the assumptions of everyday life. They get to leave their current situation and become a part of this temporal experience. The space becomes a platform to makes connections not only with the objects but with others. The excitement of the involvement in the installation will rejuvenate the human experience and cause questions of reality to arise.

The master of fine arts degree is the terminal degree in the field and thus, the MFA thesis exhibition is the culmination of each student's creative research completed during their graduate studies. Students work closely with their faculty committee to develop a body of work that they exhibit in SoVA’s Edwin W. Zoller Gallery. Each MFA student also presents a public artist talk as part of the exhibition.
