Workforce Development & Continuing Education at Pennsylvania College of Technology is offering a 50-hour Emergency Medical Responder course, beginning March 16.
The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through May 11 at the Center for Business & Workforce Development or the nearby Klump Academic Center. The cost is $300.
The primary focus of an Emergency Medial Responder is to initiate immediate lifesaving care to critical patients who access the emergency medical system. EMRs function as part of a comprehensive Emergency Medical Services response, under medical oversight, and perform basic interventions with minimal equipment.
Through 35 hours of lecture and 15 hours in the laboratory, students in this course will gain the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional EMS response and to assist higher-level personnel at the scene and during transport.
