The Penn State Engaged Scholarship Symposium, which will take place at the Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center Tuesday, March 31, is seeking presentation proposals from the University community.

The symposium is open to students, faculty, staff and administrators at each of Penn State’s 24 commonwealth campuses and will aim to help foster and develop engaged scholarship opportunities, which encompass a wide variety of out-of-classroom academic learning experiences that complement in-classroom learning, throughout the Penn State system.

Presentation proposals are sought by faculty, advisers, staff and students who participate in, promote, innovate and believe in the advancement of engaged scholarship. The symposium will focus on the growing role of engaged scholarship in higher education, as well as an examination on how to cultivate engagement opportunities.

Presentation proposals can be related to any engaged scholarship topic and can include one or more of the following topics:

  • Moving from engagement ideas to next steps (identifying and working with faculty collaborators, established campus programs, initiatives, identifying existing opportunities versus new opportunities, etc.)
  • Funding engagement programs (funding opportunities: grants, development, local partnerships, faculty compensation, etc.)
  • Encouraging participation/buy in (scalability concerns, participation requirements, etc.)
  • Assessing engagement experiences (best pedagogical practices, course level, program level, self-reporting and beyond, and integrating/aligning curricular and co-curricular, etc.)
  • Any other topic related to the theme or one of the sub-themes

Proposals may be submitted in any of the following formats: presentations, case studies, posters and alternative forms of engagement.

The proposal submission deadline is set for Friday, Feb. 13. For more information and submission details, visit http://www.engagedscholarship.psu.edu/call-for-proposals/.
