UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Fresh off a four-point weekend performance, sophomore forward David Goodwin (Des Peres, Mo.) was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. The award is Goodwin's first of his career.

Goodwin, who is riding a four-game goal streak, tallied the game-tying goal in Friday's 2-2 draw with the Spartans before potting the game-winning tally in Saturday's 5-2 victory. Along the way, Goodwin dished two assists on Saturday and registered a plus-four rating.

Goodwin has tallied eight points during his four-game scoring run, splitting the points evenly between goals and assists. The Missouri native has already surpassed his point total from last season (18), gathering 22 in just 20 games.

Goodwin ranks in the top 10 in four offensive Big Ten categories: game-winning goals (tied-2nd with 3), goals (tied-5th with 10), points (6th with 22) and assists (tied-8th with 12).

The sophomore forward is the sixth different Nittany Lion to receive weekly Big Ten honors, while the weekly award itself is PSU's seventh this season. Last year, the Nittany Lions netted just two Big Ten weekly accolades.

Penn State (11-7-3, 5-2-1-0 Big Ten) sits atop the Big Ten standing with 16 points, one ahead of Michigan, who has two games in hand. Penn State has already eclipsed its win overall and Big Ten win total from last season, while welcoming sellout crowds to Pegula Ice Arena in 9 of 10 games this season.

The Nittany Lions welcome non-conference foe Northern Michigan to Pegula for a two-game set on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game is slated for a 7 p.m. puck drop while Saturday's game will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Big Ten Network. Penn State will wear its special THON jerseys, host a silent auction and a teddy bear toss on Saturday.
