With a projected forecast of 2-4 inches of snow between Jan. 21-22, the Office of Physical Plant’s snow removal operation jumped into action to keep Penn State’s roads and walkways safe for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

OPP crews began work at 7 a.m. Wednesday preparing for the oncoming snow. As snow began to fall, approximately 100 landscapers and labor crew members began the task of clearing University Park’s 35 miles of paved roadways and 77 miles of paved sidewalks. In addition, 250 OPP workers were charged with keeping building entrances clear. It’s estimated OPP will use up to 20 tons of salt.

OPP crews will remain in place until the snow passes before returning at midnight to clear the campus’s more than 15,000 parking spaces.
