College hosts Martin Luther King Day banquet on Jan. 29

Penn State Berks will host a banquet in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015. The event will be held in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room; doors open at 6 p.m., with a soul food dinner at 6:30 p.m.

The keynote speaker is Rev. Elisha Morris, Pennsylvania NAACP Youth and College Division adviser. In addition, there will be several student performances, and awards will be presented to students who have demonstrated the characteristics for which King was known: leadership, community involvement and efforts towards social justice.

Representatives from several community groups will be in attendance, including the NAACP–Reading Branch, Central Pennsylvania African American Museum and United Africans in the Diaspora. Seating will be limited, and all attendees must have a ticket. For additional information or to reserve a seat, contact Karen Kihurani, coordinator of multicultural programs at Penn State Berks, at 610-396-6080 or via e-mail at KEK5@psu.edu.
