UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- If Thanksgiving dinner isn't complete without leftovers to enjoy later, Penn State's Nittany Lion Inn has you covered.

Takeout turkey sandwiches — 1,500 of them — were among the items the staff at the Inn is readying today (Nov. 26) for Thanksgiving, when they'll feed in the neighborhood of 1,200 people.

Chef Kirsch McMaster said while the buffet is fantastic, the turkey sandwiches that diners take home with them are "the gem." Along with sandwiches, the crew was preparing 18 pans of green bean casserole, 30, 30-pound turkeys and four steamship rounds. The turkeys are specially prepared in slow-cooking ovens and the green bean casserole is made entirely from scratch — no canned soup on the ingredient list.

"Who doesn't love green bean casserole?" McMaster said.

McMaster said along with feeding diners at the Inn, they also pack dinners for police services.

With 1,050 reservations in the books, it is advisable to call for information on the best time to walk in for Thanksgiving.
