Fischer, Hunsberger run at NCAA Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Fifth-year senior Matt Fischer (Kennett Square, Pa.) and freshman Jillian Hunsberger (Pittsburgh, Pa.) competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind.

The day started out with Hunsberger making her NCAA Cross Country Championships debut. The freshman from Pittsburgh, Pa., completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21 minutes, 38.9 seconds to finish 161st out of 253 runners.

Following the women's race it was time for Fischer to toe the line for his final cross country race as a Nittany Lion. In the men's 10,000-meter run, Fischer finished 167th out of 246 runners with his time of 32:06.0.

With the cross country season now in the books, the track & field season is just a few weeks away. The Penn State track & field season begins Dec. 13 at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track as they host the Blue-White Intrasquad meet.
