Unconventional Natural Resources Consortium holds annual meeting

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Unconventional Natural Resources Consortium (UNRC) held its third technical meeting on Nov. 17 at the EMS Energy Institute. Representatives from three member companies: Hess, Chevron and Shell; as well as Penn State faculty and students participated in the meeting. This year’s technical meeting included nine research presentations from seven students and one faculty member as well as several software demonstrations. The meeting provided an opportunity for researches to hear feedback about their research directly from company representatives and to discuss potential future projects.

The UNRC is co-directed by Luis Ayala, associate professor and associate department head for graduate education, and Russell Johns, professor, petroleum and natural gas engineering. The consortium is a research effort between industry and academia to analyze natural gas and oil reservoirs, and production in unconventional plays. The main objective is to provide long-term support to cutting-edge research in the area of unconventional resources exploitation and development, and disseminate research results to UNRC members.
