College of Engineering establishes young alumni advisory board

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A new advisory board in the College of Engineering aims to reconnect and re-engage recent engineering graduates.

The Engineering Young Alumni Advisory Board (EYAAB) will align new ideas and initiatives with activities already underway, to enable the college to connect more meaningfully with its recent graduates, many of whom are spread across the country and around the world.

The board is made up of six alumni who graduated from the college within the past 10 years and is planning to expand to twelve members. Members will serve three-year terms and meet at the University Park campus at least once per year.

Mechanical engineering graduate Katie Kirsch, the EYAAB's inaugural chair, hosted the first meeting last week. The board is planning an engineering leadership panel discussion to be held next fall and exploring launching a crowd funding campaign to support the college.

Jennifer Theiss, director of alumni relations in the College of Engineering, said the EYAAB has the opportunity to build a foundation for the college's new phase of increased and robust alumni involvement and engagement. "We are excited about the unlimited potential our recent graduates have shown professionally and we are thrilled to create a place for them to leverage that potential on behalf of the college."

The EYAAB serves as a subset of the Penn State Engineering Alumni Society (PSEAS) board of directors. The PSEAS is the only all-alumni body in the College of Engineering. PSEAS board members work closely with deans, faculty, staff and students to promote and improve the engineering programs at Penn State.
