UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Members of the Penn State Lunar Lion Team will join Penn State President Eric J. Barron and WPSU-TV’s Patty Satalia during the next episode of “Higher Education in Focus” at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20 on WPSU-TV.
The Lunar Lion Team will look to make history as the first university-led mission to the moon. After cruising through space for five days, the Lunar Lion spacecraft plans to land on the surface of the moon and send high-resolution images and videos back to Earth. The lander then will travel 500 meters to a second location.
Penn State undergraduate students Gretchen Buttorff and Liam K. Neigh will represent the Lunar Lion Team during the 30-minute program. An aerospace engineering and engineering leadership development major, Buttorff’s responsibilities include organizing lab tours, interfacing with the subsystem leads and ensuring all subsystems are on task. Neigh, a sophomore majoring in information sciences and technology and French, serves as the team’s media liaison.
The Lunar Lion Team, which is comprised of approximately 170 students from several academic disciplines, began its endeavor in January 2013.
The monthly show will air throughout the academic year and feature a variety of guests discussing University-related topics. Last month’s episode featured Tom Hogan, professor of practice, human resource management at Penn State, for an in-depth discussion regarding civility and ethics in the classroom, workplace and society.
