Penn State marks Mental Health Awareness Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State is observing Mental Health Awareness Week with multiple events through Friday, Nov. 14.

Events and themes for the week are:

Monday, Nov. 10: Eating Disorders & Body Image

-- Amber Krzys will give a talk titled "Body Hater to Body Celebrator" at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall, HUB-Robeson Center

Tuesday, Nov. 11: Stress, Anxiety and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder

-- Student panel at 8 p.m. in Room 129A/B, HUB

Wednesday, Nov. 12: Suicide and Depression

-- Ross Szabo will give a talk "Depression and Substance Abuse" at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall, HUB

Thursday, Nov. 13: Substance Abuse and Addiction

-- "The Truth About Suicide" film screening at 12:45 p.m. in the Brill Auditorium, HUB. Pizza will be served before the event at 11:45 a.m. A discussion will be held afterward with Mary Anne Knapp, clinical social worker and CAPS therapist, and Donna Snyder, of the Central PA Chapter of AFSP.

-- Collegiate Recovery Community panel at 7 p.m. in Room 302, HUB

Friday, Nov. 14, Resiliency and (Stick it to Stigma) 

Information tables will also be at the HUB-Robeson Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. 

Sponsors are Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development, the University Park Undergraduate Association and the Central PA Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
