Public invited to free computer coding how-to sessions

The Penn State Beaver Office of Continuing Education will host six free sessions of the Hour of Code, a one-hour introduction to computer science, which is designed to demystify the basics of computers and code.

Children and adults are welcome and will learn how to write code, computer applications and more. Sessions will be presented from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1; 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9; noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10; and noon to 1 p.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.

All sessions will be held in Room 107 of the Beaver campus Michael Baker Building. The Hour of Code is organized by Code.org, a public 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools, and increasing participation by women and underrepresented students of color. A coalition of partners have come together to support the Hour of Code, including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America, and the College Board. Presentations are free, but preregistration is required.
