Hurd, Peterson named Academic All-District

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Redshirt senior Emily Hurd (Sammamish, Washington) and junior Mallory Peterson (Clinton Corners, New York) were named to the Capital One Academic All-District II team Thursday (Oct. 30). Both players are now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America honors this season.

Hurd and Peterson are the program's 14th and 15th First Team Academic All-District honorees since 2000.

Hurd, a midfielder, leads the Nittany Lions with eight assists, tied for eighth in the Big Ten. Starting every game for Penn State, the team captain has spent 1,174 minutes on the pitch, scoring a pair of goals and taking 21 shots.

Hurd graduated in 2013 with her bachelor's degree in communication arts and sciences, posting a 3.50 grade point average. She has a 3.61 grade point average while working towards a master's degree in higher education administration, which she will earn in May 2015.

Peterson has scored two goals for the Blue and White, which came just nine days apart against Indiana and Bucknell. In 12 games played, she has recorded eight shots.

The biomedical engineering major is maintaining a 3.77 grade point average. The Capital One Academic All-America program recognizes starters or key reserves on his or her team who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and are at least a sophomore athletically and academically.

Capital One Academic All-America selections will be chosen in mid-November.
