UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) will kick off an awareness weekend (Nov. 1-2) with the THON Football Game and the THON 5K as part of its year-round efforts for the fight against childhood cancer.

The THON Football Game will take place at noon Saturday (Nov. 1) at Beaver Stadium against Maryland, Penn State’s new Big Ten Conference rival. The game will feature both the “Gold Ribbon” Zone, to spread childhood cancer awareness and an appearance from THON's Executive Committee between the first and second quarters.

The THON 5K will take place Sunday (Nov. 2) at the Bryce Jordan Center starting with the Kids Race beginning at 10:10 a.m. Potential runners can register online or at the registration tent before the race, set to start at 11 a.m.

This year, the hashtag #RunWithUs symbolizes an effort to expand the parameters of the race beyond State College. Supporters can submit photos of themselves running no matter where in the world they are by using the hashtag.

“#RunWithUs is part of this weekend’s awareness campaign so that even those who can’t travel to Penn State can still show their support,” said Special Events Director Caroline Sheep. “There are children racing against cancer every day, and this hashtag will show them that there’s a worldwide community racing alongside them.”

All proceeds from the THON5K will go directly to THON’s sole beneficiary, the Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
